Just What Is A Dead Chicken Hat, Anyway?

At Dead Chicken Hat we cater for the market above fancy dress up to and including re-enactment. Do not be fooled by cheap imitations. Remember that cheap can refer to the quality as well as the price.
Medieval shirts didn't look like ours. If you want them with the right fit and that funny gusset under the arm, you've reached the right place. Regency dresses did trail in the mud, so we don't cut ours at ankle length for convenience. Our circle skirts are one-and-a-half circles and often get admiring looks. Fabric tells and we don't do skimpy!

On the other hand, if you just want the same mass-produced, made-in-China, skimpy, elasticated, kiddies’ dress-up costume as everybody else, you'll find it in your local supermarket. If you want a Greek costume with sleeves sewn in, or a Viking hat with horns, try a fancy-dress shop. Dead Chicken Hat costumes are genuine authentic fakes.

Some styles are designed to be worn with period 'underpinnings' (a corset, for example). This may be noted in the garment description. It's up to you what you wear underneath, but the fit will be different and there may not be much support in the garment itself. If in doubt, ask.

Most of our designs are based on real garments or illustrations, and where possible we use period construction techniques and patterns.
Please note that measurements given are garment sizes, not your size. Make sure you leave room for undies and for movement. If you buy something and it’s not right, you must tell us immediately and return the garment unworn. A delay will be treated as a hiring. All sizes are approximate and no costumes can be guaranteed suitable for vegetarians, vegans, coelics or diabetics.
